According to a TV6 report the poverty line is rising in Trinidad & Tobago which is also a contributor of crime. It is not surprising when you consider the prices of food and the lack of housing. I believe it is as much as 20% now.

Depanman, let me guess, you are living abroad right? Trinis abroad always seem to come with these highfalutin ideas that forget one main reason the country is the way it is: CULTURE. Change the culture and everything else changes.

The government can give some type of welfare and appartment to whole families as they do in the United States.

I don't know if you live here but housing is a big problem in Trinidad right now. Even those families who have a pretty good income cannot afford houses because they are a 1 million dollars and up. Secondly, these areas that you are mentioning are polluted with gangs and drugs, why should we put these people on welfare?

I understand that but these are the towns that crimes are most persistent. The government can give some type of welfare and appartment to whole families as they do in the United States.

The government of Trinidad and Tobago needs to remove those cities from the area.

How the government should go about it? No matter how many "bad" neighborhoods they may get rid off, there will be always areas with high levels of poverty where crime will be prevalent.

QUOTE
The government should destroy all of the housing and develop the area into a secure residential area, poor elderly people living in these slums should be put into government appartments.

What about entire families? (no elderly) What do you propose?
