Name: Stilllooking
Comments: I lived in Trinidad for four and half years. It was my decision to move there, my husband is a Trinidadian who still has his umbilical cord down there. I can now say, in retrospect, that I was very naive in thinking life in Trinidad would be "sweet" as they say. Cost of living, attitude towards the really important aspects of everyday life, crime, and even the people and their "friendliness" are really sore spots. The liming and partying gets tiresome, unless you are someone who doesn't require a certain degree of intellectual stimulation, not to mention the smallness and narrow mindedness of the "callaloo" pot of people...never witnessed such a racial set of people in my life, considering the mixtures and education. All in all, it was an experience that taught me a lot, and I don't regret it, however, my husband wants to move back there again when he finishes school and I have already made up my mind we will either divorce or be long distance. It's very sad that a country with so much potential, which could be the Switzerland of the tropics, has reduced itself to what is it. With such a small population and the resources it can boast, I kept wondering what the excuses were. Vagrants seem to multiply at the speed of light, the filth and the pollution are disgusting at best, the lack of police efficiency in solving murders and crimes, the constant rising cost of living...the list goes on. I really don't think America is the best there is out there, I am still looking at other places to possibly move to in the future, Ecuador and Panama seem to be some of the best, I don't understand how Trinidad isn't even remotely close to making any of the lists.
