Title: A nation lacking in progress

Comments: The attack on Fr Clyde Harvey is just the thin edge of the wedge where crime is concerned here. Since our independence we have been breeding criminals like rabbits. These young criminals are all around us just waiting for an opportunity to assault, rob or even kill their fellow countrymen for a few dollars. This situation should never been allowed to reach this stage With all our previous and present wealth. Politicians must shoulder the blame for these vicious and galloping sort of crimes especially on this island. They have allowed the growth of poverty, and this is now noticeable by the amount of crime that is occurring especially in the strongholds of the PNM. The impression given is that our politicians are too engrossed in feathering their own nest, keeping our politics racially divided and governing the nation in Mafia type fashion. They treat their political parties as private clubs with the aim of inflicting more inequality and racial division where ever possible.by being spiteful, malicious, and manipulative. This nation should be prospering and have a harmonious and well disciplined and happy secure society, things that usually come when politicians managed a country with the wealth that has come our way. Instead we have a nation known for corruption by our renowned worldwide representative in this field still being allowed the freedom of our nation. We have terrorists represented by a brigade of so called Muslim citizens being recruit, financed and led by a man well known for committing one of the worst crime in any nation, that of treason, and again being allowed to walk free here, protected and committed to being a threat to our democracy.and making a mockery of our legal system. We have murderers by the dozens roaming all over this country killing other citizens in some cases for the fun of it. We have families living in squalor still using outside latrines,,roads falling apart, water shortage, a corrupt justice system, prisons packed with criminals mainly of one race, lack of medicines and good medical facilities, bad education, school children acting as potential criminals. We have a police system loaded with policemen bordering on the edge of becoming criminals, with police officials who themselves have broken the law and are allowed to remain in their positions of authority pending court appearances. How bizarre?. We have politicians still making promises they know they cannot fulfil and by the looks of it most citizens indulging in crime of one sort or the other.in either an attempt to survive or become another overnight millionaire. Yet despite all these adversities and many others too numerous to mention nothing is being done about any of it.Things today are worse than they were over the past three decades or more. The politicians need to stop the business of inequalities and encouraging racial division in our politics and stop playing party politics .They must do something constructive and meaningful to get us out of some of these adversities. They must stop stop pulling the wool over the eyes of our citizens by offering only lip service. They were elected to improve the living standards and conditions of our people which so far they have failed to make any real progress on this small nation with a very small population. Now we are all living in fear and could in the end succumb to the sort of criminal activity the has befallen on Fr Clyde Harvey all because of personal financial greed by politicians and those in authority in this nation. The wealth of this nation should be spent on making things better for all our citizens not merely for corrupt wealthy citizens most in positions of authority.
